What is CART?

CART is an acronym for Communication Access Realtime Translation. It is a service provided by a CART provider through the use of a stenographic machine which allows the provider to rapidly transcribe the spoken word to a verbatim instant written translation displayed on a computer monitor for individual use or overhead projector for group viewing. This service is available by having a provider on site or remotely connected. The provider may agree to allow the consumer to retain a full copy of the translation for his/her personal use.
